Lesson 30 강가에서 돌아다니기 Rolling on the River

Anna: Hello! Washington, D.C. sits on the Potomac River. This river is important to the history and culture of the city. Today, I am at an outdoor seafood market near the Potomac River. Some say it is the oldest outdoor seafood market in the United States! I am here to buy seafood. Let’s see what they have!
아나: 안녕하세요! 워싱턴 DC는 포토맥 강가에 있어요. 포토맥 강은 워싱턴의 역사와 문화에 중요해요. 오늘 저는 포토맥 강 근처 야외 수산시장에 왔습니다. 어떤 사람들은 이 시장이 미국에서 가장 오래된 야외 수산시장이라고 해요! 해산물을 사러 왔잖아요. 뭐가 있는지 한번 보죠!

Anna: Excuse me. Can you help me?
아나: 실례합니다. 좀 도와주시겠어요?

Pete: Sure! What do you need?
피트: 물론이죠! 뭐가 필요하세요?

Anna: Pete!
아나: 피트!

Pete: Anna!
피트: 아나!

Anna: What are you doing here?
아나: 여기서 뭐 하고 있어요?

Pete: I work here. You know, it’s not easy to be a writer.
피트: 저 여기서 일해요. 아시다시피, 작가가 되는 건 쉽지 않았어요.

Anna: Yeah, I heard that. Sorry.
아나: 네, 그렇게 들었어요. 안됐네요.

Pete: But this job is great. I work outside by the river. And I can eat all the free seafood I want!
피트: 하지만 이 직업 굉장해요. 야외에서 일하잖아요, 강가에서. 그리고 원하는 만큼 해산물을 공짜로 먹을 수도 있고요!

Anna: That is great, Pete. In fact, I am here to buy some seafood for my dinner party.
아나: 그거 대단하네요, 피트. 사실은, 저녁 파티를 치를 해물을 좀 사려고 왔어요.

Pete: You came to the right place. They have the freshest seafood in town. How much money can you spend?
피트: 제대로 찾아오셨네요. 이 도시에서 가장 신선한 해산물이 있어요. 돈을 얼마나 쓰실 수 있나요?

Anna: I can only spend $50.
아나: 50달러만 쓸 수 있어요.

Pete: Okay. What do you want?
피트: 알겠어요. 어떤걸 원해요?

Anna: First, I want to buy some shrimp.
아나: 먼저, 새우를 좀 사고 싶어요.

Pete: Sure thing. Follow me. How much shrimp do you want?
피트: 염려 말아요. 따라오세요. 새우 얼마나 원하세요?

Anna: How much do I need for five people?
아나: 5명을 위해서 얼마나 필요하죠?

Pete: (yells to co-worker) Give her a pound of shrimp!
피트: (동료에게 소리친다) 여기 새우 1파운드 주세요!

Anna: Ok, now I want to buy some crabs.
아나: 좋아요. 이제 게를 좀 사고 싶어요.

Pete: The crabs here are delicious! They are the best because they come from the nearby Chesapeake Bay! Walk this way.
피트: 여기 게들은 진미랍니다! 가까운 체서피크 만에서 잡아오기 때문에 최고에요! 이쪽으로 걸어요.

Pete: How many crabs do you want?
피트: 게는 얼마나 원하세요?

Anna: I want a dozen crabs.
아나: 열두 마리 주세요.

Pete: You should get the larger crabs. They have the most meat.
피트: 큰 게를 사세요. 살이 가장 많거든요.

Anna: Then I want a dozen large crabs, please!
아나: 그렇다면 큰 게 열두 마리 주세요, 부탁 드립니다!

Pete: Is that everything you need?
피트: 그게 필요하신 전부인가요?

Anna: Let’s see ... I have shrimp and crabs. And a friend is bringing a salad and many ears of corn-on-the-cob.
아나: 어디 봅시다 ... 제가 새우와 게를 샀죠. 그리고 친구가 샐러드와 꼬치 옥수수를 많이 가져올 거예요.

Pete: Is that all the seafood that you need?
피트: 해산물 필요하신 전부에요?

Anna: Yes.
아나: 네.

Pete: That’ll be $49.95. Cash or credit?
피트: 49달러 95센트 되겠어요. 현금이에요, 크레딧 카드예요?

Anna: Credit, please.
아나: 크레딧 카드 부탁해요.

Pete: Anna, you love to eat seafood. Did you grow up on the water?
피트: 아나, 해물 좋아하잖아요. 물가에서 자랐나요?

Anna: No, I didn’t. But I love the water. And I love being on the water.
아나: 아뇨, 물가에서 자라지 않았어요. 하지만 물을 좋아해요. 물가에 있는 게 좋아요.

Pete: You know how to sail?
피트: 배 모는 법 알아요?

Anna: Well ... this afternoon I am going on a boat.
아나: 음... 오늘 오후에 배 탈 거예요.

Pete: You are full of surprises. What kind of boat? Is it a motorboat or a sailboat?
피트: 당신은 놀라움으로 가득하군요. 어떤 배죠? 모터보트예요, 아님 돛단배예요?

Anna: It’s a special boat, Pete. Well, thanks for your help. See you later!
아나: 특별한 배예요, 피트. 음, 도와줘서 고마워요. 다음에 봐요!

Pete: See you, Anna! Wow, Anna’s a sailor! Who knew?
